3. Robinho

Robinho signed for City from Real Madrid in the summer of 2008 for £32.5 million, and subsequently became the club's record signing. It all started well for the Brazilian, with a goal on his Premier League debut against Chelsea and a promising first season in the Premier League. But after a disappointing second season marred with injury and lack of game time, Robinho grew frustrated in Manchester and was loaned out to previous club Santos in 2010. Exactly two years after he signed for the Blues, Robinho joined AC Milan for a fee of £15 million, less than half of what City originally paid for him.
