Man City Transfers: 5 Deals That Definitely Won’t Happen

3. Edinson Cavani

Last Sunday, Edinson Cavani reminded everyone just why he has a £51 million release clause in his contract. He scored a devastating hat-trick for Napoli in their 4-1 win over Roma to send his side 4th in the Serie A. His three goals that night amounted to the 20 he has already plundered this season, making him one of the most in-demand forwards in European football at present. City are reportedly keen on triggering the aforementioned release clause in the Uruguayan's contract, with speculation that Mario Balotelli, who has long wanted a return to Italy, could be going the opposite way. But Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has warned City off Cavani and would prefer to see Mario Balotelli partner him at the San Paolo than consider parting ways with his prized asset. He told Gazzetta.it:
"City are considering letting Balotelli go so they can move for Cavani? I would prefer to see Balotelli playing with Cavani here at Napoli."
