Man City Transfers: Predicting Manuel Pellegrini's 5 August Signings

4. Kyriakos Papadopoulos

City could use a decent, young centre-back to one day succeed from Vincent Kompany. While Kompany is at the peak of his powers at just 27, buying in someone of a similar age to Matija Nastasi‡ would ensure the Sky Blues have a solid central defence for years to come. One option to City is Kyriakos Papadopoulos. The 21-year-old Shalke defender is a £17 million target for the deposed Premier League champions this summer and Pellegrini could make a move for the youngster, who only made 10 Bundesliga appearances last season. The Greek international has also been on derby rival's Manchester United's radar in the past and, with Joleon Lescott cutting an increasingly-peripheral figure at the Etihad, Pellegrini could be on the lookout for a bit of extra cover if the former Everton man leaves. Papadopoulos has already been capped at senior level by Greece and has all the makings of a future, world-class centre-back, and could thrive if given an opportunity in England.
