2. Sunday 23rd October 2011: Manchester United 1-6 Manchester City
Roberto Mancini's Manchester City side produced what was probably the best display from the Blue side of Manchester in a Manchester Derby ever. The Premier League Champions-to-be went to their neighbours backyard and spanked them 6-1, emphatically announcing to the rest of the Premier League that they meant business for the 2011-12 season. A pair of braces from Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko, aided by goals from Sergio Aguero and David Silva took City 5 points clear at the top of the Premier League, it was hard to believe that this game was only 0-1 at half-time and 3-1 after 89 minutes had passed. In fact, City only scoring 6 somewhat flattered United after City absolutely dominated the second half, following Johnny Evans' dismissal just one minute into it. The first goal came through a very casual Mario Balotelli goal against the run of play, after which he revealed his now infamous 'Why Always Me' shirt. That was it for a remarkably boring first half. The game was sparked into life after just one minute of the second however, as Evans was sent for an early bath after hauling Balotelli down after the Italian had sneaked in behind the defender. It took just 13 minutes for City to double their lead then, with Balotelli scoring a tap-in after some lovely build up play. It took 9 minutes for them to score again, as Sergio Aguero compounded the misery on Sir Alex's side- with yet another tap in, after a cross from the right. United, however, showed the fighting spirit of the Scotsman and pulled one back in the 81st minute through another Scotsman, Darren Fletcher. It was 3 goals in 3 minutes and 54 seconds that killed United off and inflicted the humiliating scoreline. Two from Dzeko and one from Silva were to be the cause of Manchester United's heaviest defeat at Old Trafford for 56 years.
