Man City vs Newcastle – Team News, Match Preview & Likely Line-Ups

A big match for Newcastle fans, but maybe not for the board...

Venue: Etihad Stadium Date: Wednesday 29th October K/o: 19:45 BST Man City welcome Newcastle to the Etihad stadium fresh from their disappointing Premier League defeat at West Ham (the second of their season already), with a big Manchester derby to come this weekend. Newcastle go into the game on the back of an impressive away win over Spurs.

Team News

Aside from the injury to Frank Lampard, City have a full squad to choose from, and The Times claim that goalkeeper Caballero will be chosen to play ahead of Joe Hart. More changes to the side that lost to West Ham last week are to be expected, given that the Manchester derby is coming up hard this weekend. For Newcastle Mike Williamson, Davide Santon, Siem De Jong, Emmanuel Riviere and Rolando Aarons remain out, though there was some suggestion that the Jamaican born winger might make it. Pardew confirmed at the weekend that he doesn't expect either Papiss Cisse or Cheick Tiote to feature before the visit to West Bromwich Albion. Ryan Taylor might be in line for his first start in two years.

Key Stats

Newcastle's last three fixtures against Man City in league and cup have all ended in 0-2 defeats to City, with Edin Dzeko the chief tormentor (2 goals and an incredible assist). The Magpies have failed to beat City in 17 matches and have lost the 11 most recent, while they've failed to score against City since December 2012, when Demba Ba hit the net at St. James' Park. They face a City side who scored 7 goals against Sheff Wed in their 3rd round tie - with all goals coming in the second half. The Magpies' win against Spurs on Sunday was their first away league win since March, but they may be buoyed by the fact that Man City have only kept three clean sheets in 13 league and cup games. Newcastle have never won a game at the Etihad Stadium.
