Man Utd 0-0 Chelsea: 5 Things We Learnt

4. Moyes Has Given Rooney Every Reason To Stay

Two assists and a generally impressive cameo from the bench against Swansea did not signal Wayne Rooney's full integration into the Manchester United side, but in David Moyes' biggest game as United manager so far (okay, it's only been two games, but still) Rooney came back into the starting lineup, and received vociferous support from both sets of fans. There could be no better vote of confidence from the new manager, while Rooney put in a whole-hearted performance. When Ryan Giggs came on you half expected it to be in place of the English striker, and it was, but it was Danny Welbeck who made way. Moyes had slipped up during pre-season when he implied that Rooney was needed in case Robin van Persie was injured. Whether that was a faux pas or something more sinister was lurking behind those words, we shall never know, but after missing United's biggest game last season €“ the Champions League last 16 second leg against Real Madrid at Old Trafford €“ Rooney's future would have been further muddied if he missed out against Chelsea.
