Man Utd 0-1 Everton - 5 Critical Mistakes David Moyes Made In Damaging Defeat
4. Relying On The Old Guard
Ryan Giggs isn't the only member of the so-called 'old guard' that Moyes stubbornly continues to stick with - Nemanja Vidic also played a full game against Everton last night and suffered a truly torrid time. Romelu Lukaku, just one of three players to have scored a Premier League hat-trick against United, was again a thorn in their side, hustling and harrying their midfield into making mistakes and really getting at their back four with some dangerous runs. Vidic failed to contain the Belgian on more than one occasion and the defender who United fans dub their 'Terminator' was simply outmuscled by the Chelsea loanee and virtually bullied off the ball. It was unsurprisingly Lukaku who created Everton's winning goal, running unchecked into the box before fizzing a pass toward Oviedo, who was tasked with a mere tap-in. Moyes has been overly-reliant on the likes of Vidic and teammate Rio Ferdinand in the past, playing the duo three times in eight days earlier this season for the first time since early 2010. And it is clear neither can no longer be depended upon for the big occasions.
