4. Ronaldo
Eyebrows were raised when Fergie spent £12million on a highly rated teenager. To make matters worse, Cristiano Ronaldos early years at Old Trafford left him with some doubters and a reputation for unnecessary step-overs. However under Fergies tutelage he would develop into a truly world class talent, a term banded about to describe above average players like Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard but actually true in Ronaldos case. I was never Ronaldos biggest fan, for some reason I could never love him as much as Cantona or even Jordi Cruyff (hey we all have our idiosyncrasies) but he always gave his all for the team and there is no doubt he is a pretty awesome player. His peak for United came in the 2007-08 season when he amassed an incredible 42 goals in all competitions (including a goal in the Champions League Final) and he may be one of the greatest players to have played for the club. Ferguson had a great eye for emerging talent and with the right player he could nurture them and build them into world class performers, like Ronaldo and like Ryan Giggs.
