4. He Still Has To Bring In His Own Players
Despite bringing in Everton's Marouane Fellaini over the summer transfer window, the new boss hasn't really exercised his authority in the transfer market. His chase of his former left-back
Leighton Baines was well documented, as was his aborted attempt to sign
Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera, Despite these chances, Moyes instead looked closely at the squad he did have, and has set about trying to gauge who is needed and who isn't and the only way to cement his opinion is to see them play and train on a consistent basis. In this respect it is no surprise that the only player he signed during the transfer window was a man he had worked with closely for the past five years. We should see more activity in the next two transfer windows, particularly next summer when more players will be readily available due to not being cup tied for the Champions League, and it is only then that we will have a better idea of what direction Moyes is hoping to take United over the coming years. He signed many players during his tenure at Everton, and many of these were bought on the cheap and sold on for a huge profit, especially in the case of Joleon Lescott and Mikel Arteta, and with the club's mounting debts thanks to their owners the Glazer family, this kind of deal will surely be seen at United. We should also see the players who will likely be on their way out in the January transfer window, with several players already looking like they aren't cutting the mustard in the manager's eyes. Player such as Anderson, Nani, Ashley Young and Javier Hernandez could find themselves surplus to requirements under Moyes, and may look to move on sooner rather than later.
