Man Utd: 5 Great Red Devils' Careers Cut Short By Injury

3. Owen Hargreaves

Owen Hargreaves A player, who spent a large part of his early career having his place in Sven€™s England squad repeatedly questioned, went on to burst onto the scene in Sven€™s last international tournament and his defensive midfield capabilities were seen as the key to Lampard and Gerrard finally being able to play in the same England team. This tournament then led to a 17million pound move from Bayern Munchen to the red part of Manchester, and the excitement which revolved around his arrival was amazing. Finally a player that could be the Roy Keane that was missing in the midfield puzzle, yet with more skill and passing ability Highlight moments include his free-kick against Arsenal, which gave Man Utd a more David Beckham-like approach to free-kicks which would offer variety compared to the Ronaldo Rocket; as well as the general defensive assurance the attacking talent in the United team had when Hargreaves was on the field. Sadly though the injury doubts which surrounded Hargreaves in his Bayern Munchen career were all to present in his Man Utd career, which led to him making only 27 league appearances for Man Utd over 4 years.
