Man Utd: 5 Players Most Letting David Moyes Down

2. Phil Jones

It feels unfair to label Phil Jones as someone that needs to improve but the 21 year old Englishman isn€™t reaching his full potential in a Manchester Utd shirt. No one could say he isn€™t talented as for Blackburn he was often their star performer being an assured centre back. He then showed off even more skill in a friendly game for England at Wembley where playing as a holding midfielder Jones put in the performance of his life to keep Spain€™s world class midfield quiet. Big things were expected of the young man when he signed for Man Utd in the summer of 2011. His struggles at the club have been in part due to injury and the fact that no one seems to know what Jones€™s best position is. He can play centre back, full back and in the centre of midfield now it€™s good to have a guy who plays multiple roles but Jones doesn€™t have a settled position and it€™s really starting to show up in games. David Moyes doesn€™t seem to know what his best team is and certainly doesn€™t know where he can play Phil Jones to get the best of the young man. It wouldn€™t surprise anyone if Jones eventually became a full time centre back that was his role at Blackburn it€™s the reason Sir Alex signed him. But there are people who think Jones would be better as a full back or for England many see him as the perfect holding player to let the likes of Lampard go forward and attack. He clearly needs a settled position to help improve his game and of course give the United side some stability.
