Man Utd: 5 Reasons David Moyes Won’t Be Able To Save Champions’ Season

4. United Are Struggling In Defence And Attack

The stats on the team this season perhaps goes someway to explain why they have struggled so badly this season. In a way, this is a continuation of the previous point in that they don't quite seem to be playing in the way that we come accustomed to with Man Utd. The Red Devils have conceded 19 league goals so far this season, all of the current top five have conceded less goals than this and it's a defensive record that would actually put United in the bottom half of the league. Moyes' team have scored 22 goals in the league this season, the concern is that Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City have all scored considerably more. Watching the team this season it seems as though they don't have the same attacking verve or confidence to get back into the game. This seems to be supported in the last two defeats in which they have failed to score. It's also supported with the data on the number of shots taken per game. The 12.9 shots that they manage each match seems incredibly low, so it's no surprise to see it's only the 10th best record in the league and it's a similar story with shots on target of just 4.8 per match.
