...A woeful period of inactivity in the transfer window. Following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson and the appointment of David Moyes, the former Everton boss had an opportunity to bring in new players and stamp his own authority on the side. Instead, he has inherited a squad from Ferguson that has been on its last legs for a number of years now and whom only won trophies due to Ferguson's uncanny knack to milk the best out of them, and has barely added to it. United have been screaming out for reinforcements for years. A new left-back to cover for the and one day replace the ageing Evra, a new centre-back to do the same for Ferdinand and Vidic, and a creative midfielder have been on many supporter's wishlists for ages. Instead, only Marouane Fellaini came in. Not exactly the creative dynamo fans had hoped for, nor even the rock-solid, assured defensive midfielder he was at Everton since switching Merseyside for Manchester - so far at least. Moyes has an opportunity to make amends in January and strengthen the side and welcome in the much-needed cavalry, and if he doesn't, this is going to be a painful next seven months for the Red Devils.
