Man Utd: Nemanja Vidic’s 5 Greatest Moments

3. Late Winner Against Sunderland

Vidic has never really been known as a goal scorer. In 204 appearances for Manchester United he has only managed 15. Most of these goals were scored with his head or as a tap in from a corner. Occasionally he would come up with something a bit special like a curler from 15 yards out whilst surrounded by opposition players. One of his most important goals though was redoubtably against Sunderland during the 2008-2009 title race, a race Manchester United eventually won. Heading past the 90th minute, the Black Cats looked all set to take a share of the points away from Old Trafford, which would meant United's hope of a consecutive Premier League title would begin to slip. A late strike by Michael Carrick that ricocheted off the post, only to be pounced on by the defender ensured the 3 points were safe for United. The tap in was relatively routine, but Vidic's absolute desire to win and be up the penalty area in the dying minutes characterise his commitment to the cause. His celebration after oozed with passion and reflected just how the rest of Old Trafford felt.
