Man Utd New Manager - 5 Things Louis van Gaal Must Do To Be Considered A Success

5. Avoid World Cup Distractions

One of the first obstacles Louis van Gaal is going to have to overcome before being considered a success as Manchester United manager is how he handles this summer's World Cup. Van Gaal will be in Brazil from June 12 as he attempts to mastermind Holland's route to the final and depending on the Dutch team's success, he could be tied up until July 13. That would leave the former Bayern Munich boss just over one month to negotiate and complete summer arrivals and departures, which is very little time indeed. It is understood executive vice chairman Ed Woodward will be working behind the scenes on van Gaal's behalf to wrap up transfer dealings while the Dutchman is occupied in Brazil, but quite how, or indeed whether this will work remains to be seen. Woodward infamously botched last summer's transfer window with the club's only acquisition being Marouane Fellaini on deadline day - he has to do better this time. United's need for new players is painfully obvious and it is of critical importance that van Gaal successfully navigates a way around the distractions of the World Cup over the summer. If he fails to do so, some very big questions about the wisdom of his appointment will have to be asked.
