Man Utd Transfer News: Berbatov Headed to Galatasary

Bulgarian striker headed for Turkey as club President expresses interest in his signature?

Turkish giants Galatasaray have today confirmed that they are interested in bringing Manchester United's Bulgarian front-man Dimitar Berbatov to Turkey- but according to Talksport the club will leave "the final word" to coach Fatih Terim. Former Tottenham striker Berbatov has confirmed his intention to leave last year's Premier League runners-up after making just five Premier League starts for the Old Trafford club last season, despite the club taking up the option to extend his contract earlier this year. As a result there would be a fee involved, but at 31-years-old, it would likely only be a fraction of what United paid to bring Berbatov - who has also been linked with a move to cash-rich Paris Saint-Germain - in from Spurs back in 2008. Galatasaray president Unal Aysal spoke to gol.bg to express his interest in bringing the striker to Turkey
"The Bulgarian is a great forward. I want him to join us but, of course, coach Fatih Terim has the final word."
After joining United for a massive £30m, Berbatov went on to score 57 goals in 149 appearances and took the award for Premier League top scorer in the 2010/11 title-winning season along the way, before lately falling out of favour after the emergence of Danny Wellbeck at Old Trafford and the signing of Mexican Javier Hernandez. Ahead of the new season, Sir Alex Ferguson will likely look to strengthen his attacking options after allowing perennial bench-warmer Michael Owen to leave the club and now looking to move Berbatov on - though the continued presence of Wayne Rooney, Danny Wellbeck and Hernandez makes the need less pressing than replacing reportedly outward-bound Nani. Will Man Utd miss Berbatov? Is Galatasary the right move for him? Share your thoughts below.
