Manchester United boss Sir. Alex Ferguson is weighing up a move for Newcastle United's dynamo midfielder Cheick Tiote, according to a report in the Daily Express. As we reported last week, Fergie has been impressed by Newcastle's key players ever since the Red Devils were turned over 3-0 at St. James' Park back in January. We had heard that France's Euro 2012 star Yohan Cabaye had caught the eye as an alternative to the pricey Spurs want-a-way star Luka Modric but reports today suggest it is defensive midfielder he wants to add to his squad, believing the likes of Tom Cleverley and veterans Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs can carry the attacking midfield burden for another season. Fringe Brazilian playmaker Anderson is another option. 30-year-old Michael Carrick is usually preferred as the defensive midfield option in Fergie's first team but the veteran manager is looking to the future and believes Tiote could be a key missing piece of the puzzle next season for United competing with rivals City for the Premier League. Meanwhile, the Express reminds us that Man United are in the market for a new striker and Demba Ba is very much on the radar. The Red Devils are expected to activate Demba Ba's £7 million transfer release clause before it expires on July 31st. Fergie himself confirmed this week that he is working on one or two deals.
