Man Utd Transfer News: Red Devils Re-Enter Race For Gareth Bale?

Independent. United are yet to make any serious strides in the transfer market and as the window ticks down into its final three weeks, the need to add some world-class quality to the squad is becoming increasingly more apparent. The Premier League champion's failure to land a big-money signing this summer may persuade them to make a huge investment in Bale, who's capture would provide manager David Moyes a huge boost ahead of his first season in charge. Moyes watched on yesterday afternoon as his new side laboured to a two-nil win over Wigan in the Community Shield and with Robin van Persie settling the game with an unmarked long-ranged header and a deflected shot, questions were raised about the Red Devil's creativity in the final third. And Bale would doubtlessly improve United in that department, though Moyes knows just how difficult bringing any deal for the Welshman to completion is likely to be. The former Everton boss has been frustrated this summer having seen bids for left-back Leighton Baines and midfielder Cesc Fabregas fail, and he will probably face more of the same in any pursuit for the double PFA Player of the Year. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy proved difficult to negotiate with when United went in for Michael Carrick in 2006 and Dimitar Berbatov two years later, and Levy will likely be far from reciprocal in doing business for Bale either. Real Madrid are still favourites for Bale but have yet to reach agreement with Tottenham over a fee.
