Man Utd Transfers: 10 Former Players Van Gaal Must Bring With Him

4. Bruno Martins Indi - Feyenoord

The highly rated Dutchman was linked to both Everton and Arsenal at the tail-end of 2013, with a proposed fee of £8 million being suggested as the necessary figure to prize him away from the Dutch league, and Van Gaal - who has recently called the giant Feyenoord stopper up to his senior Holland side - would do well to consider adding him to United's occasionally maligned back-line this summer. Former Arsenal player Giovanni van Bronckhorst, now a coach at Feyenoord, seems resolved that the defender's quality will see him make the step up to one of the top sides in Europe, and when that opportunity comes, it should be United jostling for position at the front of the pack:
"He is very good and strong. It is not for nothing he's a first-choice here and with the Dutch national team. He will make the move to a foreign club in the long term. When the time comes and he wants to leave, he will leave the club. We are very happy with him, but we know we cannot compete with the top European clubs."
After a rather inauspicious start - he came on during Feyenoord's worst ever defeat, 10-0, to PSV in 2010 - Indi has gone on to cement his reputation as the "new Sol Campbell" based on his power and commanding performances, though he can also operate at left-back, offering United further cover in a position that is likely to be in focus this summer too.
