Perhaps this would be the biggest shock of all of United's potential midfield signings, but with Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola embarrassed with top players in the heart of the pitch, Bastian Schweinsteiger has been talked up as a cut priced casualty of the Spaniard's reign in Munich. Guardiola is said to believe that Schweinsteiger slows down the play of his side, the 29-year-old could be at risk of losing his place in the Bayern line up next season, especially now that Philipp Lahm has established himself in the Bayern midfield. Lahm is retired from international football following the World Cup and has been deployed in midfield because he is the 'cleverest player Guardiola has ever worked with.' A result of Lahm's new found position could, in the long term, mean Schweisteiger's position in the team is at risk. Whilst Schweinsteiger is nearing the wrong side of 30, the huge experience United have lost this summer could be replenished if they are to move for the midfielder - who has been capped 108 times by Germany and won everything there is to win at club level. Schweinsteiger is the finished article and a player who could make an impact on the club straight away - something that will be crucial to getting Louis van Gaal's reign off to a good start.
