Man Utd Transfers: 10 Players To Replace Louis Van Gaal's Outcasts
8. Kevin Strootman
To Replace: Marouane Fellaini With big-haired box-to-box flop Marouane Fellaini set to get the chop, Manchester United could finally ramp up their pursuit of Kevin Strootman. United have a long-standing interest in Strootman that dates back to the Sir Alex Ferguson days and have been chasing the midfielder since 2012. And now, successor Louis van Gaal aims to succeed where his illustrious predecessor failed by finally landing the Netherlands player at Old Trafford. Van Gaal is a keen admirer of Strootman and would have taken him to this summer's World Cup as part of his 23-man Dutch squad but for a serious knee injury sustained back in March that is set to rule the 24-year-old out of action until at least September. The fact that any deal to bring Strootman to the Theatre of Dreams would mean he would miss the beginning of the Premier League has not dissuaded United's interest, and nor has it prevented current club Roma from slapping a hefty £79 million price-tag on his head. Such a bank-busting asking price may leave the Red Devils scrambling around for other options when replacing Fellaini, but they would struggle to find a better alternative to the tough-tackling midfielder, who is dubbed 'the Dutch Roy Keane'.
