Man Utd Transfers: 10 Players To Replace Louis Van Gaal's Outcasts
6. Mats Hummels
To Replace: Anderson It goes without saying that Mats Hummels isn't a like-for-like replacement for Anderson, but if Manchester United sign a box-to-box midfield replacement for Marouane Fellaini in the mould of either Kevin Strootman or Arturo Vidal, they won't have to bring in a direct replacement for the Brazilian. Instead, manager Louis van Gaal may use the space and transfer funds freed up from any sale of Anderson in finally landing his top defensive target this summer - Mats Hummels. United have been chasing Hummels all summer and appeared to have their hopes of landing him dashed when Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp dismissed the speculation. However, following Thomas Vermaelen's (who was another target for the Red Devils) move to Barcelona over the weekend Louis van Gaal is set to go all out in ensuring he does not miss out on another of his main targets. Van Gaal could however face tough competition in the race to sign the Germany World Cup winner, with the Gunners also interested in the £25 million-valued ace, ironically as a replacement for captain Vermaelen. Despite the on-going speculation, both English clubs could be set to miss out on the in-demand centre-half, who has been named captain of Dortmund in a move that would appear to end both sides' hopes of securing a deal this summer once and for all.
