Man Utd Transfers: 10 Players Van Gaal Must Target In January

2. Juan Cuadrado

As well as buying a new central defender and a midfielder in the January transfer window, Manchester United would also be wise to sign a winger this winter. United were linked with a move for Fiorentina's Juan Cuadrado over the summer, and manager Louis van Gaal could get revive his interest. Cuadrado shone for Colombia during the World Cup, scoring once and providing four assists to tie with Germany's Toni Kroos as the highest assist maker at the finals in Brazil, while he scored 11 Serie A goals last season. And United could use a player of his qualities on the flanks given they currently lack options in the wide areas. Louis van Gaal may well have broken the British transfer record to sign Angel di Maria from Real Madrid, but when you look at the second wing you see very little quality, with Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia most poor. Di Maria will only solve so many problems on his own - van Gaal needs another star in the wing to compliment his abilities. The Dutchman's need of a new winger is all the more apparent when you also take into account the fact Nani and Wilfried Zaha have left the club on loan, having re-joined former clubs Sporting Lisbon and Crystal Palace, respectively, and so a January move for Cuadrado may well be on the cards should Valencia and Young continue to struggle.
