Man Utd Transfers: 10 Signings Louis Van Gaal Should Have Made

1. Arturo Vidal

The one player all Manchester United fans were hoping their club would sign this summer was Arturo Vidal. The Juventus man was linked with a switch to Old Trafford seemingly all summer and was at the heart of one of the biggest on-again-off-again dramas of the transfer window. But despite the persistent speculation, he stayed in Italy. United could really have used a player of Vidal's qualities. A tough-tackling, highly physical midfielder, he would have added steel to the Red Devil's midfield and intimidated the opposition in a way Roy Keane used to do. Known by the Italian media as Il Guerriero ("The Warrior"), he would have been United's answer to Yaya Toure. The Red Devils needed a player capable of dragging them by the scruff of the beck and hauling them out of the mire this summer and Vidal's combative style of play would have made Louis van Gaal's side less of a pushover. He would have brought energy, drive and determination to the team, and the failure to sign him leaves United's midfield looking brittle two days after the transfer window closed for business until January. Who do you think Louis van Gaal should have signed this summer? Let us know in the comments thread, below.
