Man Utd Transfers: 10 Signings Louis Van Gaal Should Have Made

3. Juan Cuadrado

Along with improving in central midfield, Manchester United also should have strengthened in the wide areas, where they appear to lack quality DESPITE the British transfer record signing of Angel Di Maria. The Argentine is of course a world class player and will improve the club on the flank to no end, but when you look at the second wing you don't see too many options. Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia have gone backwards over the years while Nani and Wilfried Zaha have been loaned out to Sporting Lisbon and Cardiff City, respectively. That means United could have done to have signed two wingers this summer, with Juan Cuadrado persistently linked with a move to Old Trafford only to stay in Italy. The Fiorentina man excelled at this summer's World Cup for his native Colombia, scoring the opening goal of his country's 4-1 win over Japan and providing four assists throughout the tournament to tie with Toni Kroos as the competition's leading assist maker. He would have brought flair to United's midfield and with him and Di Maria on each flank, the Red Devil's opponents would have had a lot to deal with this season had the move come about.
