We've looked at a number of potential alternatives for Arturo Vidal and either one of them would be a fantastic addition at Old Trafford this season but Manchester United's summer in the transfer window would have to be considered a glorious one should they land their main target. United have been chasing Vidal for months and his has been one of the more protracted transfer sagas of the summer so far. Nicknamed Il Guerriero ("The Warrior") by the Italian press for his penchant for a hard tackle, Vidal would be the perfect signing for van Gaal. United's midfield is in desperate need of some bite and the tenacious Chilean would certainly give it that. His capture would make him the Red Devil's answer to Yaya Toure and Chelsea's Nemanja Matic and van Gaal is in desperate need of some added-steel considering Marouane Fellaini has been so ineffectual. Italian sources claim United are close to signing Vidal and claim he has agreed personal terms over a £182,000-a-week five-year contract. If this speculation proves accurate, the Old Trafford giants might well have just made the signing of the season, and salvaged their summer in the process.
