Man Utd Transfers: 10 Signings To Save Louis Van Gaal's Summer
8. Daley Blind
The signings of Vermaelen and Hummels would go a long way to setting right United's wobbly defence this summer but the feeling among a lot of supporters is that van Gaal also needs to bring in another left-back as cover for Luke Shaw. Shaw is United's only recognised left-sided fullback following the sales of Evra and Buttner while at 19 you could argue he is inexperienced. Should the England starlet get injured or suspended at any point in the season, van Gaal would be significantly short of defensive options and that's a massive problem that needs fixing over the next few weeks. The United manager could turn to Daley Blind as a solution, and knows the defender well from his time spent managing the Netherlands during the World Cup. Blind was impressive for Holland during the finals in Brazil and played all seven of his country's games at the tournament, even scoring against Brazil in the third-place play-off to help the Clockwork Orange to a 3-0 win over the hosts. At 24 the Ajax fullback has his best years in front of him and his signing would mean that, alongside Shaw, United would be tying down the left-back position for the next five years at least.
