Man Utd Transfers: 10 Signings To Save Louis Van Gaal's Summer

7. Juan Cuadrado

With centre-back and left-back now wrapped up in a neat little package Louis van Gaal's next task would be to secure right wing-back. The Dutchman favours wing-backs in a 5-3-2 formation that sees two attack-minded defenders go forward in support of the midfield, leaving three at the back. Shaw or Blind could effortlessly occupy the left wing-back slot and Rafael the right, though there are concerns over the Brazilian who was limited to just nine full appearances in 2013-14 due to a series of injury issues, while a groin problem kept him out of his club's pre-season tour of the United States. Van Gaal has the option of playing either Antonio Valencia or Ashley Young off the right-wing but an even better option is Juan Cuadrado. Cuadrado has featured 28 times as a right wing-back over the past two seasons for Fiorentina in Serie A and enjoyed a successful World Cup campaign with Colombia, scoring the opening goal in his country's impressive 4-1 win over Japan. Known for his blistering pace, darting runs and crossing ability, Cuadrado is a significant upgrade on Valencia and Young, who flattered to deceive last season. Cuadrado netted 11 league goals for Fiorentina last season while Valencia, Rafael and Young only managed four between them. Should LVG land the South American alongside Vermaelen, Hummels and Blind, he would more than rescue United's summer in the transfer market.
