Yes, that Memphis Depay.

Since leaving Old Trafford in January 2017, flying forward Memphis Depay has become one of the biggest stars in Ligue 1. In that time, the winger has amassed 34 goals in 88 games for Lyon, including some absolutely ludicrous strikes that left fans speechless.

When United signed Depay from PSV back in 2015 for a £25 million fee, they thought they’d signed one of the best young talents in world football. For sure, Memphis showed the occasional glimpse of his quality during his time in Manchester, yet those glimpses were too few and far between. Once Jose Mourinho took charge of the Red Devils, Depay’s days were numbered and he would barely make an appearance under the Portuguese.

In addition to a newfound maturity to his game, another element that makes Memphis such an attractive signing for United is that there was reportedly a buy-back clause included in the deal that took him to Lyon. With Manchester United in need of attacking options on either wing, now could be the perfect time to trigger that buy-back clause and bring the 25-year-old Memphis back to Old Trafford.
