Man Utd Transfers: 3 Deals United Should Finalise Today

2. Cheick Tiote IN

Sir Alex is in need of an enforcer type central midfielder, and Newcastle's Ivorian international defensive midfielder would seem to fit the bill perfectly. Last season Tiote was imperious against United at St James' Park, with the Magpies running out impressive 3-0 winners in that game, and since signing for Newcastle from Twente in a relatively cheap deal, the player has shown some seriously impressive form in black and white. He would bring a granite-like toughness to the centre of the park that United have arguably missed since Roy Keane's departure some years ago, and his skills certainly aren't limited to his restrictive role in midfield. Possessing a keen eye for a pass, as well as a touch tackle, Tiote is a far more all-round player than he is perhaps given credit for and he would bring culture, confidence and passion to United if Sir Alex could strike a deal today. As an advantage for Sir Alex, Newcastle already appear to have signed a replacement for Tiote, in the form of Ajax's Vurnon Anita, and also have youngster Gael Bigirimana to call upon if they were to cash in on one of their most saleable assets. They may also be buoyed by the fact that Mike Ashley is known to always have a price in mind for his players, regardless of their value on the pitch to the club - with the comparatively affordable fee of £25m said to be attached to Tiote.
