3. Wayne Rooney OUT
This window is the best opportunity to sell Wayne Rooney, with cash-rich clubs like PSG, Man City and Chelsea able to wield the kind of financial power necessary to grease the wheels of any possible deal, and rumours emerged in the past couple of days linking the England man with a move away from Old Trafford. Those rumours have subsequently been quashed as rubbish by the player himself, but the fan reaction to the news wasn't quite what some might have expected, with some elements of the United faithful expressing their desire to see Rooney leave. At the minute Rooney would command a fee close to or in excess of £30m - a huge chunk of money that United could reinvest in coming seasons to redevelop the squad and keep in contact with Man City as they continue to invest in new players. It might seem rather sacriligeous to suggest that Rooney should be sold, but the player is now at his peak and is likely to suffer a drop in value in the next few years, with United likely to take a hit on the potential fee they could command for him. And with Robin Van Persie now in to lead the line, Rooney might find his time on the pitch limited this year, unless Sir Alex decides to play a more conventional 4-4-2 formation with the two players alongside one another. Quite where that would leave Hernandez and particularly England prospect Danny Wellbeck remains to be seen, but Sir Alex's fondness for Wellbeck might spell further limitations for Rooney. And an unhappy Wayne Rooney is no use to either United or England - so if Sir Alex is intent on limiting the player's time on the pitch, he would do well to consider selling him outright now while his value is high and his list of likely suitors long enough to spark a late bidding war.
