3. Fabio

The purchase of Alexandre Buttner in August 2012 was the first sign that fringe left-back Fabio was unwanted by Manchester United. It is a fair assumption that if manager Sir Alex Ferguson felt Fabio was right for Manchester United, Fergie wouldnt of gone looking for another. The decision to purchase the 24-year-old shows that Ferguson is wary of the left-back position, especially with Patrice Evra growing older, but of what we have seen this year Buttner isnt exactly the ideal left-back. The Dutchman seems to forget about defending and concentrates of pushing forward. Buttner has established himself as a forward thinking player but not a left-back. Fabio will likely go back on loan once his loan at Queens Park Rangers finishes at the end of the season, meaning he could spend all of next year away from the club and with Buttner not establishing himself as a left-back, Ferguson will be forced to spend money on a replacement for the current French left-back, Patrice Evra. With money tight at Old Trafford, the only way Ferguson will spend on another left-back is when he sells Fabio, something which needs to happen before he is totally wasted as a individual.
