Man Utd Transfers: 4 Players Sir Alex Still Desperately Needs To Replace Tonight

2. Paul Scholes

Paul Scholes has been a loyal and immensely valuable servant to the club over the past few years, even as his legs began to get heavier and his tenacious spirit was betrayed slightly by his physical condition, but his second retirement is surely about to be announced. And while Scholes shouldn't be pushed prematurely out of the door, he needs to be directly replaced before he heads out of the door - though chances are he could remain in a coaching role. Shinji Kagawa might have come in in the summer, but he is not the sort of player who can replace what Scholes offered to the team (but then who is), and United would be better suited to throw their hats late into the ring to sneak Marouane Fellaini away from Everton to swerve the likely tug-of-war for him come summer time. Fellaini is precisely the sort of player who could slot into the United midfield and immediately help the club distance themselves further from their noisy neighbours in second and the trailing pack. And dare I say it, in his tackling ability, he actually would offer more than Scholes.
