5. Leighton Baines
A left-back? Instead of RVP? No, Im not high. Perhaps Sir Alex is falling into the transfer trap that seen Chelsea vomit £50 million on Torres, or Liverpool wizz away £35 million on Andy Carroll. Perhaps, despite some United fans complaining that the Glazers are not flexing the same financial muscle as their nearest rivals, Sir Alex needs to take a step back and look at his United squad. Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandez. Uniteds top three strikers. But then you look at who is playing behind them. Scholes, Giggs, Nani, Valencia, Kagawa goals, goals, goals, goals. Do United really need another striker? Berbatov looks to be on his way out because United cannot keep him on the bench, and Michael Owen has already left/ been kicked out because he doesnt have a place in the team. Surely, the money United could spend on RVP would be better shoring up the defence. An aging Patrice Evra, paired with a temperamental Rafael and an injured Vidic caused a few defensive problems for the Reds last season. A new face, one who has both international and Premier League experience, could shift Uniteds mentality this season and could be the difference between another second place and another Premier League title.
