Man Utd Transfers: 5 Players David Moyes Must Offload...Quickly!

2. Danny Welbeck

Welbeck's tale of 'what could have been' is extremely similar to Tom Cleverley's. A young, precocious talent who enjoyed a successful spell at a Premier League club (Sunderland) before returning to Old Trafford to cement a career in the first team. However, yet again the development many expected to take place has failed to materialise. To say Welbeck hasn't scored enough goals for the club is an understatement, with his contribution of one Premier League goal last season. Many will argue that he was largely played out of position by Ferguson, in an unfamiliar role on the left wing. This is quite true but he still only produced a grand total of four assists in the league; hardly outstanding figures. On the opening weekend of this season Welbeck scored two goals away to Swansea and there was cautious optimism that he had finally found his killer instinct. However, normal service has quickly resumed and he hasn't scored in the league since. The panic he often displays when receiving the ball in the 18 yard box is a sight in itself. Welbeck is considered an important part of the England squad ahead of the World Cup next year but many must wonder whether he, along with Cleverley, would be in Roy Hodgson's thoughts if they didn't play for United. As another young, British player, United would have no shortage of takers for the Mancunian but whether he would willingly leave his home town club is another matter. Fact about the Flop: Jonny Evans tripled Welbeck's goal tally last season with a huge 3 goal haul...clinical.
