Man Utd Transfers: 5 Players Fergie Must Buy in January

3. Marouane Fellaini

The big man has certainly made an impact since he signed for Everton back in 2008. A dominating presence in midfield, Fellaini has established himself as one of the hottest properties in European football at the minute. His United on the opening day of this season was nothing short of sensational, and duly earned him plaudits from Everton and United fans alike. Strong, good in the air and technically gifted, the Belgian has all the attributes that would make him an instant success at Old Trafford. The afro-haired enigma already has two goals to his name so far this season, one of them being a headed winner scored against United in the opening game of the season. Midfield is an area where the reds found themselves somewhat lacking last season, and for a long period of the campaign were without a string of first team players, with the likes of Tom Cleverley, Darren Fletcher and Anderson all sidelined with long-term injuries. Yes, Scholes and Giggs are still going strong, but those two are likely coming towards the end of their United careers within the next couple of seasons. Carrick is an able player when called upon, but is often exposed when it comes to his defensive responsibilities. This role seems to be no problem for Fellaini, and his stats speak for themselves. He finished last season having won the most tackles, aerial duels and made more passes than any other player at Everton. He won the second highest amount of tackles in the league and won possession of the ball 190 times, the most out of any player. Far too often last season, United were bullied and dominated in midfield, allowing teams such as Bilbao, Basel, Newcastle and Wigan to overrun and out play them. A player of Fellaini€™s quality would undoubtedly help to solve this issue. This is one deal that could possibly go through, with the player himself recently admitting that he could leave the Toffees in January. At just 24, Fellaini would be a good investment, not only for this season, but for many to come.
