Man Utd Transfers: 5 Players Moyes Could Spend £200 Million On
3. Ilkay Gundogan
Central midfield is yet another problem area for Manchester United and their weaknesses in the middle of the park are there for all to see this season. Only rarely has a United midfield looked as tired and average as this current set-up with a whole forest of deadwood in need of clearing out. Anderson simply has to go and probably will while the purchase of Marouane Fellaini has been a disaster and Tom Cleverley definitely isn't "the next Paul Scholes". Clearly Moyes simply has to invest in a new central midfielder over the next 18 months - a top quality one at that, such as Ilkay Gundogan. There is much speculation at present about Gundogan with the Germany international out of contract at Borussia Dortmund in 2015 and a new deal yet to be agreed. The 23-year-old has been integral to Dortmund's recent successes, helping them retain the Bundesliga in 2012 and reach the Champions League final a year later. A playmaker, Gundogan is exactly the creative spark United's midfield needs right now and his passing abilities and technical qualities make him the ideal replacement for Scholes. Gundogan is thought to be valued at £25 million though £30 million is perhaps more likely if United are to sign him now.
