2. He Will Have A Better Chance Of Winning Ballon d'Or
When deciding who to award the Ballon d'or too each year, all one needs to do is look to La Liga. Eleven of the 23-man shortlist for the award this January plied their trade in Spain's top tier competition, with the likes of Messi, Ronaldo, Iniesta, Xavi, Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso, Sergio Busquets, Iker Casillas, Radamel Falcao, Mesut Ozil and Gerard Pique all making the list. Ronaldo therefore went toe-to-toe with many of his La Liga colleagues in the awards and it became very difficult to differentiate between him and his many esteemed rivals. Considering Messi was the star of La Liga last year, he was always going to be a shoe in for the award no matter what stamp Ronaldo made on proceedings. If he was plying his trade in the Premier League on the other hand, he would stand out more as an obvious candidate. Ronaldo's one and only Ballon d'Or win came whilst playing for Manchester United when he won the Champions League in 2008, beating Messi to first place with 446 points to the Argentine's 281. He won the Ballon d'Or that year because he was the obvious outstanding choice. With Barcelona so far ahead of Real Madrid in La Liga this year, they look capable of dominating the division for a very long time, meaning Ronaldo will continue to be cast under a shadow. At United however, he would have a greater chance at winning silverware (Real haven't won the Champions League since 2002) and thus a greater chance of winning the Ballon d'Or.
