Man Utd Transfers: 5 Reasons Why Fergie Must Buy In This Transfer Window

4. Is This Current Side Good Enough?

It's true, Manchester United have scored 54 goals this season, and are currently sitting seven points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Barclay's Premier League. But that cannot mask the fact that this side have been inadequate this season, particularly at the back. This current Man United defence is the worst in 11 years, having conceded 28 times, the worst defensive record of any of the top four teams at present. To put that into perspective, that's an average of 1.47 goals per-match, and the last time the Red Devils had a defensive record worse than that was 2001. This poor record can be put down to the prolonged absence of Nemanja Vidic through injury, but also some really poor performances from Jonny Evans and Patrice Evra, as well as the apparent indecisiveness of Ferguson regarding who his number 1 goalkeeper is. He can't seem to settle on either de Gea or Anders Lindegaard, which raises the question - is this defence good enough? I would suggest it isn't. Source(s): ESPN
