Man Utd Transfers: 5 Reasons Why Moyes Should Sign Cristiano Ronaldo In January

4. The Necessity Of Keeping Up With Rivals

While Manchester United failed to set the transfer window alight with a spate of expensive new signings, their rivals strengthened in key areas by splashing the cash. None more so than Tottenham, whose profligacy put even moneybags Chelsea and Manchester City in the shade. The Lilywhites spent in excess of £100 million on the likes of Roberto Soldado and Christian Eriksen while Chelsea and City forked out huge stacks of cash on restructuring their respective squads. Even Arsenal can be said to have enjoyed more success than United, after they broke their club-transfer record on Mesut Ozil. There are concerns United are being left behind - both off the pitch and on it. While their rivals have brought in fresh talent, United's squad is virtually the same side that failed in Europe and in the domestic cups last season, which is a concern. Yes, they won the title by 11 points, but that was the only trophy they won and you have to wonder if the presence of Fellaini alone is enough to change their fortunes in those regards. One player who would help United become a major competitive force on all fronts is Ronaldo, and his arrival in January would hopefully coincide with United's first leg in the Champions League last 16.
