Man Utd Transfers: 5 Replacements For Rio Ferdinand

5. Nevan Subotic

One option when replacing the outgoing Ferdinand is Neven Subotric, a long-term target of ours who was linked with the club back in 2012 during the Sir Alex Ferguson administration. The Serbian - who once played with Nemanja Vidic at international level - was linked with a £16.5 million move to Old Trafford two years ago and has popped up on our radar again recently. It has been reported that we are contemplating a swap deal that would see Shinji Kagawa head back to Dortmund, having joined us from the Germans in 2012. Such a transfer would be ideal, considering we have a dearth of options in the No.10 role with Juan Mata, Adnan Januzaj and Wayne Rooney all able to play there. At 6ft 4, Subotic is a tough tackling and imposing centre-half, with a commanding aerial presence. He has played in Germany for the entirety of his senior career thus far, and could be tempted by the prospect of challenging himself in the Premier League despite our lack of Champions League football next season. The only hitch is that the 25-year-old recently committed himself to a new contract at Dortmund, tying him to the Westfalenstadion outfit until 2016.
