Karim Benzema's importance to Real Madrid cannot be underestimated. Despite living in the shadow of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, Benzema has been going about his business for a number of years with deadly efficiency, helping his team to multiple honours. In La Liga last season, he scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists in 29 appearances, with an average of 2.4 shots per game and 1.6 key passes (per whoscored.com).

His strength and presence make him a similar player to Wayne Rooney, but he is arguably more effective. After leading the line for Real for so long there would be no nerves from the Frenchman. However he would have to improve his goals tally with United lacking a Cristiano Ronaldo to find the net regularly.

It is down to the midfielders in the team as well of course to step up and score more often, and I think Benzema's unselfishness would help that to happen. He is in his prime, strong, confident and can finish. If United signed him it would really set out a signal of intent that not only do they want the league title back, they want to make a real impression on Europe too.
