Man Utd Transfers - 9 Players Louis van Gaal Should Spend £200 Million On

9. Ashley Cole

Ashley Cole this week dropped the bombshell that he has played his final game for Chelsea and that he will be moving on in the summer when his contract expires. A series of clubs have been alerted to the availability of the retired England international, with Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City and United monitoring developments. One of the big advantages in signing Cole would be that he's available on a Bosman - meaning he can join for nothing - and United's need for a new left-back is evident. Patrice Evra looks set to join Juventus and with Luke Shaw to come in as his replacement, Cole would be a good player for the 18-year-old to learn from while he establishes himself at Old Trafford, given that he has won the Premier League, Champions League and Europa League in recent seasons. United have signed veterans in the winters of their careers in the past, the most notable example being Michael Owen in 2009, which worked out reasonably successfully. Could Cole be set to follow in his footsteps? Value: FREE
