Man Utd Transfers: 9 Worst Signings Of The Post-Ferguson Era
6. Victor Valdes
Manchester United thought they had pulled off the best possible back up for David De Gea after roping in Victor Valdes in 2015, after all he was Barcelona's number one choice in goal for several years and also played an important role during the trophy-laden years under Pep Guardiola.
The Spaniard was coming off the back off a horrific knee injury that kept him out of action for almost a year, but didn't manage to force his way into Van Gaal's plans even after getting fully fit.
He was constantly left to warm the bench, and made just two senior appearances until the end of 2014/15 season. Incensed at the lack of game time, he even refused to play for the reserve side later that summer which proved to be the final straw in his ill-fated Manchester United tenure.
Van Gaal then didn't play him even once in the following season despite Valdes being regularly named in the squad, and in January 2016, left for Belgian side Standard Leige.
