Man Utd Transfers: 9 Worst Signings Of The Post-Ferguson Era
5. Memphis Depay
With Radamel Falcao and Robin Van Persie both leaving in the summer of 2015, Manchester United were left with no recognizable striker. In came Memphis Depay, an exciting 21-year old who was just crowned the Dutch Eredivisie's most prolific player with 22 goals.
His arrival was naturally greeted with a lot of fanfare, but all of that fizzled out like a damp firecracker in no time.
Depay was a pale shadow of his rip-roaring self, struggling to find his feet in the Premier League. The weight of expectations he carried from wearing the iconic jersey no.7, worn by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo in the past, also seemed too much for his shoulders.
With a meagre return of two goals in 29 league games, the Dutch striker proved to be a massive let down and didn't see the light of the day once Jose Mourinho took charge in 2016.
Depay featured only four times without scoring and eventually left for Lyon in the following January, where he has since successfully re-established himself.
