Man Utd Transfers: Reviewing Fergie's Summer Additions

3. Alexander Buttner & Nick Powell

Both Alexander Buttner and Nick Powell are players for the future rather than the present at Old Trafford and whilst United fans haven€™t seen much of the two signings this summer, they did both get debut goals against Wigan last weekend. Alexander Buttner joined Manchester United for £4 million (source - daily mail) and despite being a left-back, he still managed to skip past several Wigan players and score on his debut. Buttner at the age of 23-year-old is seen as a player who can fill in the gap whilst Patrice Evra rests from time to time. Nick Powell is the youngest of the summer additions at Old Trafford and has already proven he can score at the top level. His goal against Wigan didn€™t just prove that Manchester United dominated the game; Powell€™s goal proved that he can strike the ball perfectly and score goals similar to that of Paul Scholes. Manchester United have been viewed by the media as weaker in the midfield and with Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs almost ready to hang up their boots the fact that Powell is ready to step up to the challenge is somewhat promising for United fans. It is unlikely that Buttner or Powell with break into the first team squad anytime soon and Powell could easily be sold like Darren Gibson. Buttner on the other hand has a lot of promise as Patrice Evra isn€™t getting any young and there is a real gap for the player to fill.
