Man Utd Transfers: Wayne Rooney Expected To Stay At Old Trafford

Daily Star, Wayne Rooney will stay at Manchester United despite handing in a transfer request at Old Trafford. Rooney, 27, has been unsettled at Old Trafford in recent months which has led to the striker wanting to leave The Red Devils. With the 2012/13 Premier League champions having named former Everton boss, David Moyes, as the replacement for the retired Sir Alex Ferguson, it is believed that this 'new era' has convinced Rooney to stay. The Englishman has been linked with moves to several top clubs this summer including Arsenal, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain. United€™s number 10 though is now set to link up with Moyes for the second time, with his new manager having originally giving a young 16-year-old Wayne Rooney his Everton and Premier League debut eleven years ago. Former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, gave Rooney a more attacking-midfielder role in the United side after signing Robin van Persie. Rooney has been disappointed with the decision to demote him to a midfielder and has insisted he knows he is a striker:

€œIn years to come midfield might be where I could play but now I€™m a centre-forward.€
Whilst Rooney may be annoyed with the decision to play just behind last year€™s top goal scorer, Robin van Persie, the Merseyside born striker has endured a disappointing season. Rooney has scored just 12 goals in 27 league games this season, compared to his 27 goals in 32 appearances the season before. Manchester United have made Rooney a key figure of the club€™s new home kit advertising campaign, proving that the club feel he has a future at Old Trafford. Rooney has two-years left of his £250,000-a-week deal at the club and Moyes is keen to begin negotiating a new deal as soon as possible. The United striker cost £26 million from Evertonin 2004 but rumours are suggesting that The Red Devils could only receive £30 million if they chose to sell him this summer.
