Man Utd: Who Is United's Most Valuable Player?
4. Jonny Evans
The days of Man Utd being able to boast a central defensive partnership of Vidic and Ferdinand seem to be a past memory, rather than a current day possibility, with injury and age have taken their toll on both players, who are now restricted to one game a week in a bid to prolong their careers at Old Trafford. This has been made easier by the emergence of Evans as a top centre-half, coming a long way from the skinny teenager who plied his trade alongside Nyron Nosworthy under the management of Roy Keane at Sunderland between 2006 and 2008. His form this season has been extremely consistent leading many to believe that it is a fight between Vidic and Ferdinand to get a starting berth alongside the Northern Irish international. His performance in the first leg of the Real Madrid tie was assured and confident with Evans showing a willingness to put his body on the line for the sake of the team; a dedication which has been prevalent in most of, the ever maturing, Northern Irish internationals outings this season. For Jonny Evans to be considered one of the top centre-halves in the league, as well as Europe, he must make sure he keeps up the consistency he has shown this season for the next 5 or so years especially as within this time he will see the likes of Ferdinand and Vidic retire. MVP Score: 9/10
