Man Utd: Who Is United's Most Valuable Player?

3. Michael Carrick

carrick rooney The former Spurs man has long been able to make a valid claim to be the most under-appreciated player in the United ranks. His pin-point passing and calming presence at the heart of the midfield has been vital to United's success this season, and he has really stepped up to another level, with the ever-aging Scholes, as United's main man in the middle of the park. Carrick's pass completion rate, which remains in the higher half of 80%, is of a percentage that we have come to expect from Barcelona€™s World Cup winning midfielders. While all the praise at the Theatre of Dreams will inevitably go to the forward talents which they have available, Michael Carrick's form this season has been just as vital as any goal put into the back of the net by the United firepower. His status as one of the more senior players of this young Red Devils squad means that his central midfield partners, namely Tom Cleverly and Phil Jones, rely on, and learn from, his experience, just as he did with Paul Scholes after his arrival from Tottenham. If there could be one criticism of Carrick, however, it is his lack of goals as he has scored none so far this season in the EPL. MVP score: 9.2/10
