Manchester United's Greatest 23-Man Squad Of The Premier League Era
12. Roy Keane (Ireland, 1993-2005)
Though the circumstances of his eventual departure in 2005 were controversial and his comments in the media in recent years mean that he is now somewhat 'persona non grata' at United, nobody can deny that Roy Keane is one of the greatest midfielders to have ever put on the shirt, having given his heart and soul for twelve years in the middle of the park, eight of them as club captain.
There is perhaps no better example of his passion than the Champions League semi final of 1998/99 - already suspended from the final as a result of accumulated yellow cards, Keane led by example with the team 3-1 down on aggregate, scoring the first vital away goal to spearhead a comeback that ultimately resulted in the team taking home the Treble.
